DISGORGE, over 40 square feet, 10 November 2007, white chalk on pavement (collaboration with Trisha Gupta)

Our drawing in space is a giant chalk mural that extends from the steps of Dauten to the steps of Rutledge and around a looped pathway between the two dormitories. The mural stretches over 40 feet of space, two staircases, and a large cement wall in front of Rutledge. We created a continuous, flowing drawing that both unified and starkly juxtaposed our distinct styles. Using and combining the parts of various source images of animals (e.g. caterpillars, frogs, horses, seahorses, octopi, squid, goldfish, etc.), Trisha created a colony of spindly, fantastical creatures escaping (or falling victim to) a monstrous, metamorphic slough disemboguing from Dauten. The slough, drawn by Jenie, consists of an amalgamation of assorted material (e.g. skulls, cocktail fruit, raw meat, hot fudge brownies, baby birds, spaghetti, tree branches, etc.), unified by their harsh, graphic image quality and connective line work. The daintier of the creatures rush towards Rutledge for sanctuary, where the two larger, more sinister “mother bugs” reside. The final result was, in essence, “doodle vomit,” a clash between two separate styles that despite their violent convergence come together as a fluid, cohesive whole.
